R.E.D. GRANITI’s offices are based in MASSA-CARRARA with a warehouse which occupies an area of approximately 60,000 sqm and 8 bridge cranes with a capacity of 30 to 40 tons. On average the company has 30,000 cubic metres available which customers can select through R.E.D. GRANITI’s efficient, secure service. 25,000 tons of new materials arrive from the port in Marina di Carrara every month and the same quantity leaves for the various destinations by road and rail; the yard actually has its own rail link and is able to establish effective working relations with the port. In Italy, in order to improve the service to other production areas, a second yard was opened in Monfalcone (Trieste) and a further yard is to be opened in Verona in 2003. The latter is expected to satisfy the requirements of the Verona area which currently absorbs a significant share of the Italian market which is also equal to 50% of R.E.D. GRANITI’s turnover. Giorgio Conti’s idea to organize the company in the major raw material producer countries proved to be decisive. Starting from Brazil, from which large quantities of quality materials are still imported such as Giallo Veneziano, Verde S. Francisco, Verde Eucalipto, Belorizont, then South Africa and Namibia where R.E.D. GRANITI made substantial investments in the production of materials such as Black Africa, Bitterfontein, Arandis Yellow, Giallo Duna, Oliver Green and India. In India the R.E.D. group has had an office in Bangalore since 1976 with Italian staff who select the blocks for the various markets. In 1992, together with an Italian partner, the Vermont Quarries Corporation was set up in the United States in order to continue and strengthen excavation of the famous white Danby marble quarry. More recently, another important acquisition in partnership with a Canadian group concerned the elegant black granite quarry known on the markets as Virginia Mist. In Finland in January 1995 the R.E.D. GRANITI group took over 100% of the shares of Finska, the largest Scandinavian company working in the production of granite blocks. In Norway the group acquired 50% of the company producing the excellent blue granite known as Blue Pearl G.T. Very recently, the group’s consistent work in Zambia has led to the 50% control of the entire production of the country’s black granite. Giorgio Conti worked consistently towards the strategic control of raw material, the acquisition and search for new quarries, new materials, always top quality materials, to meet the requirements of his customers and the end users.
